Author's Note: I normally try not to post frequently, but I wrote this last month actually. I re-read it and decided, "Why the hell not, it's cute." It's pretty fluffy... but if I'm not writing angst, I'm writing fluff. Enjoy! I wrote this while listening to Ingrid Michaelson's "The Way I Am." Listen to it here! It's adorable!

To be honest, Kurt never considered Puck to be his perfect man. His perfect man was more of a Finn type: tall, lanky, somewhat awkward, with a misleading innocent air about them, thick in a sort of endearing way. Okay, honestly, Finn was Kurt’s perfect man. He was completely devoted to his crush on Finn, silently pining for the older boy. He never thought he’d feel this way about another person.

That is, until the day Noah Puckerman asked him on a date.

Kurt doesn’t know why he said yes. It’s not as if Puck and him were on good terms. In fact, it was probably safe to say that Kurt really hated Puck. A lot. So he was shocked when he opened his mouth to tell Puck to fuck off, and out came, “Sure, when?”

One date turned into two, and then two dates became three, and pretty soon (Kurt doesn’t really know when), they just kind of considered themselves to be dating. After three months of this “dating,” Kurt finally asked if he was Puck’s boyfriend.

“Do you want to be?” Puck had asked, and Kurt had shrugged. He didn’t know, really.

“It might be nice to make whatever this is somewhat official,” he’d said, and Puck looked at Kurt, the constant hint of a smirk playing at his lips. And then he’d mussed Kurt’s hair.

“Better get on changing your Facebook relationship status, then,” he’d said with a laugh, as Kurt whined about his hair and sulked all the way home.

And now, several months down the line, Kurt thinks that being Puck’s boyfriend is pretty great, because Puck doesn’t expect anything new from him. And Kurt doesn’t expect anything new from Puck, and it’s a good place to be. Puck is still a sarcastic asshole, he’s still kind of inconsiderate sometimes, he still messes up Kurt’s hair and clothes and he knows just what to say to make you hurt most. Kurt still complains about fashion, and he still is unpopular and nerdy, and he still prioritizes a bit selfishly and he knows he drives Puck up the wall. And yet, even though Puck is an asshole, and even though Kurt is an asshole too, all these months have passed and Kurt finds that he genuinely loves Puck. Loves him more than he ever “loved” Finn.

He knows with Finn, he’d always be trying to top Quinn to get Finn’s attention, always trying to one-up Rachel. He’d always be trying to be more perfect, just a smidgeon, until he lost track of who he was, become whatever Finn wanted. Finn would expect too much, or maybe he’d expect too little and leave Kurt in the dark, so that he had to improvise. Kurt knows he’d probably really get sick of Finn, because really, the kid is as dumb as a brick and yeah, it’s cute, but only for so long. He’d have to change to be with Finn, because Finn is popular and perfect, and Kurt is neither of those things.

Puck doesn’t want Kurt to change, and never did. Kurt knows this because Puck asked him out of his own accord, knows this because Puck has never made any moves to leave him. He knows Puck loves him, and not because he’s said it, but in the ways he shows him: giving Kurt his jacket when it gets cold, staying up with him on nights when Kurt has terrible nightmares, hugs him protectively when someone jeers at them, and goes absolutely berserk when someone even looks at Kurt in a threatening way. He knows that Puck loves him, so he doesn’t need to hear it, not when Puck is so good at showing him.

He loves everything about Puck, even the parts that people don’t normally love. He loves everything about Puck, because Puck loves everything about him.

“Don’t ever change,” Kurt whispers one night, laying in Puck’s bed. His lips are brushing against the other boy’s, pressed so close that he could melt into him.

Puck smiles, and Kurt feels it. “Why not?” he asks.

“Because I like you just the way you are,” Kurt replies with a sigh.

Puck doesn’t answer, merely kisses Kurt until the smaller boy sees stars. He loves Puck because Puck takes him just as he is, no added frills, no expectations. And what could be more perfect than that?
